Talbot Hotel, Malton (Former AA Rosette – The Wentworth Restaurant Now Closed)

Overall Rating 5/5

Excellent food and service!

“This 2 AA Rosette Talbot Restaurant offers a delightfully formal setting to showcase the best of Yorkshire produce. Championing the use of fresh ingredients from local suppliers.”  I came here for my birthday last month on a Friday night, we were the only ones dining in the restaurant area that night which I did find surprising, some diners chose to sit in the bar area but we chose to be seated in the actual restaurant, nevertheless the waiter catered to us faultlessly. The menu’s theme is set around cuisine from the sea or earth.

We were served complimentary fresh bread, which is always a good start! For starters we couldn’t resist the Twice-baked Cheese Soufflé, which was mouthwatering beautiful. we also tried the scallops which were cooked superbly.

For main I chose the Cod & Mussels Rogan Josh, which was a dry dish, expecting it to be served as a curry, but the delicate spicing of the veg accompanying my fish was just right and did taste like a good curry! The fish skin was a little salty for me.

We also tried the Crispy Duck Egg with Potato Risotto and Wild Mushrooms. This was a dish we hadn’t come across or tried previously, which we really enjoyed and which was really filling.

And of course I couldn’t say no to a Hot Chocolate Fondant with Milk Ice Cream for the dessert which was scrumptious!

The food here can be a little on the pricey side depending on what you choose, although expected, but worth it.  Starters are priced between £7 – £18, mains £15 – £30, and desserts are priced at £7. This used to be a James Martin restaurant, however the quality is 100% still there. Meals are presented very well, and the service was great. This was my second visit and I’d visit again!
