The Reliance, Leeds City Centre

Overall Rating – 5/5

Absolutely gorgeous food leaving us with full bellies and empty plates!!

££ = £42 for two people; 1 starter to share, 2 main meals, 1 dessert to share, 3 soft drinks.

The Reliance, based just outside of Leeds City Centre past Merrion St and the Grand Theatre, is a quirky Bar & Dining Room that also has a small Cinema. From an open plan kitchen, The Reliance serves seasonal homemade cuisine including their own home-cured charcuterie range.

This place had been recommended to me by a friend who had heard that the Sunday Dinners were good here, and boy were they right!

We decided to share a starter so that we had plenty of room to enjoy one of the Sunday Roasts. There were a few starters on the main menu to choose from such as Harissa Roasted Cauliflower and Mackerel. There was also a varied special board, which we chose from. We decided to go for the “Garlic, Ricotta, Toast.”

garlic toast reliance

If you’re a lover of garlic, then this is the starter for you. A roasted garlic bulb served with a huge dollop of ricotta and fresh toast to spread it all on. We really enjoyed this and thought it was a great idea for a starter and something we hadn’t seen before.

roast beef reliance

The options for the Sunday Roast are; Beef, Lamb, Pork or Nut. I opted for the pork which was sensational. Cooked perfectly, with the crackling still on. All roast dinners are served with a decent portion of veg (cabbage, carrot, parsnip), very yummy and crispy roast potatoes, a good amount of gravy, and a big Yorkshire Pudding on top. Jamie chose the beef which was served slightly rare and was beautifully cooked.

There was just a right amount of food and every piece of the dinners were so tasty and appetising that we ate the lot! I cannot fault the food at all that we tried, and couldn’t see any reason why this place wouldn’t be a 5 out of 5.

sticky toffee reliance

For dessert we chose the Sticky Toffee Pudding, which is one of my favourite ever desserts. I have decided that, whilst I am searching for the “Best places for a Sunday Roast around West Yorkshire.”, I also want to find the “Best Sticky Toffee Puddings” as well!! At The Reliance, you get a large portion of pudding, served in warm toffee sauce. No ice cream or custard, but in the end I wasn’t that bothered as it tasted divine, and I was definitely full after all that food, it was just enough to enjoy every bit of it.

In summary, this restaurant serves amazing homemade food that tastes delicious, and I think it could be a real contender for one of the “Best places for a Sunday Roast around West Yorkshire.” I think it is really good value for money as well. I plan on returning again soon to try something from their Lunch or Supper menu. Check out more on their website here.
