Great Italian food in a lovely atmosphere. An enjoyable night out for couples, families or friends.
££ = £60 for 2 people; Sharing board, 1 starter, 2 mains, 1 dessert, 2 glasses of wine and a soft drink.
Based not far from Yeadon High Street is this gorgeous little place, Amalfi, open since Nov 2016. Serving fairly traditional Italian food and great wines, this restaurant also provides a fantastic atmosphere and regular live music nights (Fridays & Sundays).
We visited on a Friday night and the restaurant was fairly busy with families, couples and friends dining. We were greeted by exceptionally friendly and attentive staff which I have to say really added to our night.
A few of the special were recommended to us so we decided to start with the recommendation of the Crab Tian and a Sharing Board (meat & cheese). The Sharing Board was REALLY good but I have to say we nearly filled up just on this! 3 types of cheeses, 3 types of meat, and some pickles as well as an onion chutney and some fresh crusty bread. This was really tasty and is more than enough for 2 people, it would probably stretch to a party of 4! The Crab Tian was a nice light and refreshing starter, served on avocado with fresh salad. Sharing Boards are priced from around £13 – £20 and starters will cost anything between £5.50 – £7.50 with dishes such as Arancini Balls, Bruschetta, Calamari and much more.
I’m not sure how many of you agree, but when I go to an Italian restaurant I have to have pasta or pizza as a main. I never choose the meat or fish options as I can try these types of dishes anywhere. It has to be authentic pasta or pizza. So we ordered one of each!
We decided to try the Don Martino pizza which came with Spicy Italian Sausage, Garlic, Broccoli, Chillies, Onion and Mozzarella. Watch this pizza if you’re not a fan of strong garlic. There was literally massive slices of raw garlic piled on the pizza, we had to take it off in the end to enjoy it! Aside from that we enjoyed the pizza.
We also tried the Tagliatelle al Frutti di Mare – Seafood pasta dish consisting of Clams, Calamari and prawns. This was super yummy, and a massive portion! We couldn’t eat it all what with the large starters as well, but I really enjoyed the fresh seafood – which there was plenty of (hate it when there’s like one prawn and one piece of calamari!). Main meals here are priced anywhere between £9.50 – £25 with a wide selection of pizzas, pastas, meat & fish dishes, and a specials board. The staff packed our leftovers up for us to takeaway, which is always good!
Although we were beyond full, clearly we had room in our dessert stomachs to try something sweet, and the Manager Sami is definitely a great salesperson as we couldn’t say no! We decided to share the Choca-Mocha mousse (new), which was served with biscotti. This was yummy and very indulgent. I’m glad we decided to share though! Desserts are priced around £5.
Throughout our meal here, there was live music with Katy playing guitar and singing. Katy had a great playlist and the music was perfect to dine here to. Amalfi really does cater to all parties, and we could see that quite a few tables were taken up by regular customers, which is always a good sign.
In summary we enjoyed a nice chilled evening eating yummy Italian food and drinking find wine whilst listening to great live music. I would really like to return here again and try something else on the menu! I would recommend this place to anyone that likes Italian food and is based around Leeds, it was worth the 40 minute drive for us!
