A gorgeous little pub in the middle of a small village in West Yorkshire that serves fantastic home-cooked food. I am definitely going back there again!
Overall rating – 4/5 (Purely because I only got to try lunch, I’m sure after my next visit it’ll be a 5!)
££ – Approx £15 – £20 each for a decent sized lunch and alcoholic drinks.
Today, a strangley warm and sunny February Saturday (how is it 14 degrees and blue skies at this time of year???), my friend and I decided to go for a decent walk around our local area with the intentions of grabbing some lunch somewhere. After 6 miles we walked into Gomersal, arriving just before 12. I googled locals cafes/pubs with just a small choice but as we were still fairly early for the pubs we decided to walk a little further into the a small but gorgeous estate of Little Gomersal and stumbled across The Wheatsheaf Inn. It is a hidden gem!!
Welcomed by really friendly staff, we took some drinks out to the beer garden which was lovely and peaceful, and a proper sun trap, heaven! The lunch menu has a great array of meals such as hot sandwiches served with homemade chips or soup, to ale-battered fish & chips, and much more choice! There is a lunch specials menu starting from 1 course (with a glass of wine, beer or soft drink) for £9.95, up to 3 courses at £15.95.
We settled on ordering a sandwich each, trying the cajun chicken & mozzarella that comes with jalepino jam, and the goats cheese with caramalised onion jam. Both were served on toasted ciabata and came with homemade chunky chips, coleslaw, and a huge ale-battered onion ring. Lunch is served as large but very satisfying portions that looked and tasted fantastic! A few gin & tonics later, we started our 6 mile walk home, but we both said we wanted to go back to this lovely little pub for either an evening meal or a Sunday Roast one day.
I hear they do a tapas night mid-week too!! The service was oustanding and all in all I would recommend this pub to anyone wanting a nice quiet drink or some delicious homemade food.
Let me know what you think of this place if you get the chance to try.
