A quirky Bar & Restaurant based in Morley selling over 50 gins, beers & cocktails and serving decent pub grub with themed day/nights also.
Based locally to where my Mum lives is Morley – a great little up-and-coming market town that in the last few years has seen more and more bars & restaurants opening, putting Morley on the map in Leeds for a decent day/evening out.
I’ve now been to Different Gravy a few times for drinks, and as below a few occasions for food too 🙂 It’s a humble, down to earth venue, unpretentious, and just a nice place to visit in my opinion…
Afternoon Tea Bottomless Brunch…
So back at the start of 2020 (a year we mustn’t dwell on!), once a month Different Gravy, based near the Post Office in the centre of Morley, started offering an Afternoon Tea Bottomless Brunch. For £25pp you got a selection of sandwiches and savoury snacks, desserts, mini cheesecakes and bottomless prosecco for 90 minutes. There were two sittings at either 2:30pm or 5:30pm to choose from and £10pp deposit to be paid when booking. I think for a local Bottomless Brunch option it was really good.

The selection of food included 3 mini sandwiches, pork pies, sausage rolls and quiche with a selection of mini desserts and scones. There was also a mini cheesecake each, which for me was more than enough as we couldn’t manage to eat everything! You also get tea or coffee with your afternoon tea.
Our glasses of prosecco were constantly being topped up and the service was great. There was only two other tables booked at the time that I went with two other friends but I can see this brunch becoming more and more popular. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the afternoon here and would go back to do it again…
Since then Different Gravy are still offering a Bottomless Brunch but the offer is now Wednesday to Saturday 11:30 – 6pm. Food from the daytime menu and 90 mins of bottomless drinking with drinks including; Selected bottled lagers/cider. Details subject to change.
Themed Evening Dining…
In November 2021 Different Gravy advertised their first themed night – Mexican Night – which was £20pp for a 3 course Mexican themed meal. For a bit of a change we thought this sounded great. There was initially 2 sittings for the evening however due to (bloody) Covid and various cancellations, unfortunately their bookings reduced a lot. This was a real shame as I hate to see local independents struggling and seeing so many cancellations…

We walked in and were welcomed and sat at our table that had Mexican themed paper plates, cups, hats etc which was a little bit of fun. The background music also had a Mexican theme – very cute.

Starters were Pulled Pork & Bean Tacos with a Crunchy Salad with Avocado – I have to say this was our favourite course, and it was a large starter as well!! The tacos were packed full and really tasty and we had lots of avocado and fresh salad each too. We really enjoyed it.

Mains were Mexican Roast Beef with hot sauce and Sweet Potato Wedges. Initially the beef seemed a little underdone, but as we tucked in it was actually tasty and melt-in-the-mouth. We did feel it was just rare roast beef though, it didn’t have anything Mexican about it? BUT the hot sauce was a great accompaniment with a fabulous kick to it! I love sweet potato and the wedges were aplenty and delicious.

Desserts – now on the menu it said sweetcorn cake and chilli ice cream. We seemed to receive what was possibly sweetcorn cake but I wasn’t entirely sure, lemon tart, vanilla ice cream and chunks of mango. It wasn’t the best dessert I’ve had and we were a little disappointed at the absence of the chilli ice cream. The tart and cakes were ok, lemon isn’t really my thing.
The star of the show was definitely the tacos and the effort that staff had put in. I briefly spoke to the chef who was disappointed with the current climate meaning he had a lot of cancellations however he is hoping that more themed nights will take place next year, so I am excited to see what is next and will definitely be going back!
