Overall Rating 3.5/5
Fairly decent steak but the sides were the star of the show, superb!
££ – Approx £30pp+ for 1 starter, 1 main and a glass of wine (or 2 soft drinks)
Having received a Dining Out voucher for my last birthday, I decided to use it at a Miller & Carter Steakhouse as I don’t often order steak when eating out as they can be pricey and I tend to cook it at home a lot, but I wanted to treat myself!
The restaurant in Horsforth comes across fairly formal, and seems a nice place for a special occasion. The decor really reminded me of the American Steakhouses on International Drive in Florida, very nostalgic, I loved it. Staff were very attentive and friendly.
We dined here on a Sunday and chose from the Sunday set menu – 3 courses for £23.95. For our starters we tried the Calamari and the Chipotle Chicken. The Calamari was nice although nothing special, but quite a decent portion. The Chipotle Chicken was really good though, a bit sweet with a bit of a kick, but really yummy.
We both went for a steak main, the Sirloin medium-rare which was lovely, and the aged Rib Eye rare (£3 supplement) which was unfortunately a little tough. The steak mains are served with parsley butter, seasoned fries, a slice of onion loaf and balsamic glazed beef tomato, along with your choice of lettuce wedge and steak sauce. The onion loaf was superb! I went for the garlic mayo and padano lettuce wedge which was very refreshing. This is definitely something that makes this steakhouse stand out. I chose the Beef dripping sauce which I have to say is one of the best rich gravy sauces I’ve ever had and went so well with the steak and the onion loaf. The sides really did make the dish I have to say. It is a shame that the Rib eye was tough as it brought the meal down in estimations, especially when paying that bit extra.
The portions are quite large and we didn’t actually have room for dessert in the end! Plus the restaurant had run out of Sticky Toffee Pudding (scandal!!) which would have been our choice anyway. If I return to the restaurant I think I’d opt for dessert instead of a starter next time.
Mixed reviews here and probably because we were paying quite a bit for what food we had compared to some of the places we eat at (Glad I had a voucher!). I did enjoy the food I was served though and I do think Miller & Carter would be a nice restaurant to visit for a special occasion.
