The Wheatsheaf, Bakewell

Based in the centre of Bakewell town, The Wheatsheaf is a family and dog friendly country pub serving decent food such as “Pub classics” – pies & casseroles and other dishes such as steaks, burgers, sandwiches and desserts (including the local famous Bakewell Pudding).  They also offer vegetarian and vegan options. The pub décor gives a really inviting and homely feel.

So far we have visited Bakewell for the day twice, and both times we have eaten at The Wheatsheaf and really enjoyed the food..

January 2020 – Sunday Dinner

We walked in on a Sunday afternoon and were able to get a table for 2 no problem. The options for the Sunday Roast were Beef, Pork and Chicken, we chose the Pork. When the food arrived my eyes were definitely too big for my belly! 3 BIG slices of gorgeous pork was served with roast potatoes – which were crisp and delicious, mash potato – creamy and yummy, carrots, leeks and broccoli – all cooked really well, stuffing, and topped with a large Yorkshire Pudding (of course) and served with lots of gravy. If you come here for a Sunday dinner DO NOT fill up on the Starters and don’t expect to want a Dessert afterwards (how about buy some Bakewell Pudding to take home for later like I did 😊). Absolutely banging food, which defeated me on that day unfortunately (won’t lie, I was a tad hungover). However the food was delicious and I would definitely recommend coming here for Sunday Dinner.

June 2022 – Burger Board!

Our second visit to The Wheatsheaf was after a lovely and sunny 6 mile walk (again on a Sunday) and it was just the spot to get some comfort food! The outside seating was very busy but inside there were tables to spare thankfully. We were both fancying burgers so when we saw the Sharer Burger Board on the menu, this was perfect for 2 hungry people and great value for money at £28.

This consisted of; two burgers – beef or chicken with salad, bacon & cheese or two vegetarian burgers, mac ‘n’ cheese, fries, slaw & corn on the cob (vo, gfo). We got one of each of the chicken and beef burgers both of which were cooked beautifully and a good sized burger. The fries were more like chippy chips which we love, and the mac ‘n’ cheese was definitely homemade. Everything was delicious and very filling indeed, you wouldn’t need any more between 2 people – another meal here highly recommended.
