Federal Cafe – Northern Quarter, Manchester

Overall Rating – 5/5

One of the best breakfasts I have had so far!

£24 for 2 breakfasts and 2 hot drinks

federal

Whilst in Manchester the other week for a few days, I searched Trip Advisor for a good place to have breakfast, and this was one of the top ones in the Northern Quarter area. I could see why as soon as the food came out! Federal pride themselves on serving “Ozone coffee and a fresh, locally sourced brunch menu in a friendly and cosy atmosphere. There is always an impressive cake selection baked in-house to accompany your brew.” They are also a fully licensed bar enabling you to enjoy a cheeky mimosa with your brunch or a Federal cocktail after work.

Based on the corner of a busy street, this cosy and casual cafe does tend to get quite crowded, however on a Wednesday late morning, we managed to grab a table inside (although it was nice enough to sit outside which there was room to do).

halloumi and shrooms

Federal has an extensive hot drinks menu, and they even had Chai Latte on there which I don’t see too often (probably a good thing as I’dd drink my own weight in sugar if it was more available hah), so this made us very happy.

Their brunch menu is also varied with granola, sandwiches, omelettes and a range of full breakfasts on offer. I went for the Halloumi and Shrooms with added chorizo, which is a dish that is right up my street! It was perfect. It came with poached eggs topped with a spicy tomato sauce and hazlenut dukkah!! I could have eaten it again if I hadn’t been very full. We also tried the Smashed Avocado with bacon. Everything was fresh, cooked well, and very hearty indeed.

Service here was friendly and fairly swift to say they were busy. I would happily visit this cafe again. I’d like to say to try something new, but I’d probably orde the exact same thing again haha!
