A quirky and lively restaurant & bar based in Wellington Place not far from Leeds Train Station, offering Sunday Roasts, Bottomless Brunch Afternoon Tea, Cocktails and more.
My friend and I bagged a bargain via Wowcher; Bottomless Afternoon Tea with Prosecco for 2 (90 minutes), £30 in total (half price)! There was a bit of an issue booking the date via Wowcher as we wanted to book on 29th February and their calendar didn’t seem to be working properly, but Mad Frans accommodated us after I contact them via Instragram (Thank you).

I would say the layout of this venue is quite unique and quirky with some tables and a small bar as you walk in and then go up a few stairs to a bigger area with the bar and more tables and chairs and a stand-out feature wall! It has quite a modern and clean vibe to it, and I think is great for small gigs as well. You can actually hire the venue out for events which I think is a good idea.

We were sat at our table for the Bottomless Brunch, opposite the bar, and off to a great start when a bottle of Prosecco was left to us both (always a winner). However from there, I felt the service wasn’t as good as we had hoped and when compared to other Bottomless Brunches we had experienced. It seemed to take a little while for our food to come out and when it did it was basically 3 finger sandwiches each, some mini desserts, and then 2 scones each. If I had a choice I would definitely opt for more savoury and less scones, I struggle to eat 1 as it is! The quality didn’t feel quite there on this one.

Unfortunately it also seemed to take a long time to receive more Prosecco and I think that’s because there were a lot of rowdy people in that day, that had clearly done their 90 minutes brunch already (bit worse for ware by 4pm), but also because there was still some drink left in our glass, and it felt that the rule here is you only get a new drink when you’ve completely finished the one you have. So in an hour and half we felt the drink flowed a bit slowly to our usual experience and the food quality could have been better.

Saying that, the atmosphere here and the music is really good and I have seen a lot of people that have enjoyed the Sunday Roast here. Mad Frans also offers a small food menu over breakfast, lunch and the evening so I would say it’s worth a try more for the Sunday Roast/normal menu/few drinks to start your night off rather than the Afternoon Tea Bottomless Brunch. Check out all they have to offer on their website here.
