One of our favourite real ale pubs to visit based in Kelham Island, Sheffield is doing food & beer for collection this lockdown! Delicious, humble food that we can’t wait to try at the actual pub when we are allowed again!

As with many other independents trying to keep their business afloat throughout this pandemic, The Fat Cat has started to offer food (and beer of course) takeaways for collection. What better way to start this than with Pie Night on a Wednesday! For £20 you can order 2 pies (with wedges, mushy peas & gravy), 2 desserts (with custard), and 4 pints from a selection of ales on offer – what a bargain!!
The Fat Cat is about a 20 minute drive-away for us but we have enjoyed many a pint here and we are trying to support local/independents where we can through lockdown so we put our order straight in via their Facebook page.
With it being their first night and offering such a bargain, it looked like the orders had flooded in, as collection was quiet busy and a little chaotic – understandable with this being very new for everyone. I am just glad to see a lot of people supporting this pub and I think in the end it was a success!

We ordered;
Steak & Ale Pie – Pastry was good and inside there was lots of chunky steak and really tasty ale gravy.
Chicken, Sage & Red Onion Pie – This was absolutely delicious and there was so much chicken inside! The pastry was superb with the sage & red onion on top.
Both pies came with LOTS of homemade potato wedges – lovely jubbly. And a portion of mushy peas & gracy each.
Sticky Toffee Pudding & Custard – very sticky and very tasty
Chocolate Pudding & Chocolate Custard – felt like I was at school again with this yummy dessert!
& 4 pints of Pale Rider Pale Ale (well 3 and a bit pints as the cap to the container wasn’t on properly so the car mat got a bit of it :P)

Despite the slightly chaotic collection and losing some of our beer in transit, the takeaway was absolutely worth it, the food was so good we ate every last bit.
The Fat Cat are offering food collections every Wednesday & Friday for the rest of lockdown so check out their Facebook Page for more information. We can’t wait till we can visit here again and next time we will be visiting for food as well as a few pints!
