The Olive Branch, Selby

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

This lovely and impressive Turkish/Mediterranean Restaurant based in the centre of Selby serves mouth-watering food and is part of a group of 6 other Yorkshire-based Olive Branch restaurants. We were really happy with the food and service provided here and would visit again.

On our mini UK break last week we planned to go into Selby for a meal and a few drinks one evening and decided on The Olive Branch and the menu looks tasty – so glad we did! There wasn’t much in the way of other appealing places to visit on a Tuesday night around the area however we came a really cute & interesting Craft Ale bar called The Little Black Dog just a few minutes walk from The Olive Branch. These are a small independent craft brewer and their venue is really cool with hundreds of song lyrics on the wall you end up singing all sorts of different songs whilst you enjoy your beer (see below). Check out more about them here.

Back to the food…

Unfortunately we didn’t get the chance to try any starters on this visit to the restaurant as we had a feeling that the main meal portions would be big enough and didn’t want to be leaving in a food coma. We were right, the mains left us full enough – although part of me still wishes I could have tried more!

Mixed Grill

I went with the Mixed Grill – An assortment of kebabs including lamb shish, kofte, chicken shish & pirzola (lamb chop) served with salad, rice and cacik (Creamy garlic yogurt, chopped cucumber, fresh mint & oregano). This was DELICIOUS! All of the meat was cooked to perfection and was juicy. Everything was spiced just right and the taste of garlic was strong – which we love! I ate every last bit.

Ben (after much deliberation as there are so many amazing sounding dishes to choose from) went with the Mixed Kavurma Turkish style Fajitas – with both Chicken & Lamb, marinated onions, mushrooms, peppers and fresh garlic, served with salad, cacik, mozzarella cheese and tortillas for you to wrap yourself. These were superb and again the herbs and spices used, especially the garlic were strong and really flavoursome.

As usual I am making myself hungry whilst typing this…

The food was outstanding and the service was great and everyone was friendly I would love to re-visit The Olive Branch even if it’s at another location. Hoping they open in the Sheffield area….
