Nottingham House – Broomhill, Sheffield

Well known for their delicious pies, Nottingham House is a casual pub nestled in the Broomhill area, popular with students and locals alike. Modern décor and fine dining it is not, but if you’re looking to fill ya boots with pie, chips and gravy and grab a few drinks with your loved ones, then this place does nicely!

Look at all those chips!

Having heard great things about this pub’s pies and seeing their variety of different fillings, we just HAD to go try some! Last Sunday afternoon we visited Nottingham House, (also known as The Notty House) we got there at about half 2 and the place was fairly busy but a table became free shortly after ordering drinks. You have to order your food at the bar and you’re given a table number to take back to your table. We were told it might be an hour to hour and half wait for food on our visit! We wouldn’t usually want to wait this long but we thought if we tried another pub for Sunday dinner by the time we got there, we’d be waiting just as long for food, so we decided to wait it out. In the end our pies came about 50 mins later.

There was lots of fillings to choose from; Steak & Ale, Chicken & Leek, Lamb & Feta, various Vegetarian options, it was a tough choice. In the end I had to go with the Lamb Mince & Feta which sounded really tasty. Ben went with the Chicken and Sausage Stuffing. Choice of sides were mash or chips, mushy peas and gravy. We both chose the chips which were chip-shop style, home-cut chips.

The pies were fantastic, proper pies with the pastry encasing all of the fillings. The lamb mince in my pie was aplenty and really tasty and there was a big layer of feta too which obviously made me very happy. Ben’s pie was FULL of tender chicken and delicious stuffing made with sausage. The chips, mushy peas and gravy were spot on. Our plates were piled high but we managed to just about clear them. All this for just £9.95 each.

I can see why these pies are well-known, they were great and there was such a decent amount of flavours to choose from, we’d definitely visit again.
