This superb Greek Restaurant based on Abbeydale Road, Sheffield is like stepping into a traditional Taverna in Greece. Here you will find authentic, delicious Greek & Mediterranean food aplenty and a great atmosphere to enjoy it. Greece is one of my favourite countries to visit and now I’ve added this little gem to my Top Rated Restaurants list.

As soon as you arrive outside of this restaurant you get the feel of a traditional Greek Taverna from the décor, a real Mediterranean dining experience. Lots of Greek memorabilia and decoration throughout the restaurant makes it feel like a home from home. I love this – The word Meraki is used by modern Greeks to describe what happens when you leave a piece of yourself – your sole, creativity, or love, in your work. The passion and love they have here for their cuisine and service really shines through.
The menu at Meraki offers all of the usual Greek cuisine you would expect to find from Baked Feta and Saganaki, to a Meze Platter and of course Gyros. Picking what I wanted to eat from this menu was VERY tough because I could literally have sampled it all.

For me though, it HAD to be the Variety of Cheese (for 2 to share); Grilled halloumi, talagani, saganaki and feta served with cherry tomatoes, olives, onions, florina peppers and pitta breads. My friend and I shared this course as we are big cheese-lovers and this just beat the other choices for us. The platter came out served beautifully, laid out delicately with mouth-watering, fresh, grilled cheese. It really was divine. It was quite a large sharer not that it stopped me from eating more than half of it lol, but we did keep the bits of pitta bread for later and my friend took some of the leftover cheese home too – love a good doggy bag!!

As tempting as Gyros was, we knew the starter was going to be quite filling so opted for a “lighter” plate for our Main Course and both went with the Pork Souvlaki. Still a great portion size, the pork was served on 3 skewers and was cooked delightfully well and tasted spot on. The rice and salad to accompany were also perfect. We couldn’t manage to eat everything but again were more than happy to take a doggy bag!
I saw someone on the table behind us order Gyros and to be honest I am glad I didn’t that night because you literally get TWO gyros wraps with lots of chips so half of it would have gone to waste, BUT I can plan to have this another time without a starter (always thinking ahead).
The food was outstanding, lovely restaurant and great service – this has quickly become one of my favourite restaurants! To find out more about Meraki, please visit their website here. Is it time to visit again yet??
