The Miners Arms, Chapeltown – Sheffield

A traditional and cosy, local pub serving fresh home-made food Wednesday to Sundays and offering a wide range of drinks including cask ales. Their menu consists of a range of classic pub Starters and Main meals (Vegetarian options too!), Sandwiches, Burgers & Desserts (including a Children’s Menu) as well as Sunday Dinners and daytime specials at reasonable prices.

Based in Chapeltown about a 20 minute walk from our house in High Green along a nice country walk, this homely pub is a great visit for traditional food and a welcoming, down to earth atmosphere. We have enjoyed a Sunday Lunch here a few times and have since been back to try out other dishes and have never been disappointed by the service or food.

The Sunday Lunch menu consists of a selection of Starters for £3.50 such as Soup or Pate, the Main course offers a wide range of roast meat choices, Pie or Vegetarian options, served with a selection of seasonal vegetables, roast potatoes and either new or mash potatoes at great value for money for £10.50, and then finishes off with a selection of Desserts for £3.95.

I chose the beef and got LOOOOADS of meat, all accompaniments were great too, maybe the veg could have done with a few minutes less, but my plateful was delicious.  Ben chose the pork which came with stuffing and a little bit of crackling and he also thought the whole meal was very good.

Even though I was full, I really enjoyed the atmosphere of this cosy pub so we stayed a while and I ended up ordering a dessert – I was really in the mood for a crumble, so that’s exactly what I ordered – Homemade Blackberry & Apple Crumble with custard. The presentation of this was so cute and the whole dessert tasted so good, very sweet & comforting, just what I wanted from a dessert! I ate every last bit.

As well as the Sunday Lunch here we have also enjoyed;

  • Homemade Meaty Oriental Salt & Pepper Spare Ribs starter – a large portion and the meat melted in the mouth. This came on a bed of salad and was tasty.
  • 10z Gammon with Two Fried Eggs, Onion Rings, Tomato & Mushrooms served with chips – talk about large plate of comfort food! Ben really enjoyed this, PROPER pub grub and definitely filling.
  • Chicken Forestiere – Chicken Breast Smothered in Bacon, Shallots & Mushrooms, finished with Garlic & Basil – I was torn between this and the Thai Chicken Breast but we eat a fair bit of Thai at home so I went with this. A really beautifully plated bit of food, again there was a lot of it and was served with new potatoes and vegetables (way too much for me to finish). The garlic and basil was strong on this dish which I loved.
  • Homemade Sticky Toffee Pudding (v) served with custard, pouring cream or ice cream – I had the custard again because they make it so rich and creamy here. The wedge of the pudding was great, it was more a tasty sponge than sticky toffee but my dessert belly managed to fit every last crumb in. Beautiful.

The food here is good, hearty food that is homemade with love. I do like this little local of ours. Maybe the portion sizes can be slimmed down a little as I don’t like to see waste, but I loved every bite. The Miners also offer a Daytime Deal board Wed – Saturday 12 – 4pm where you can enjoy 2 courses for £12.50 or 3 courses for £15.95, bargain!

I would highly recommend calling into The Miners Arms, Chapeltown if you’re ever near or passing. For more information, check out their Facebook page here
