Quirky Café Bar & Bakery in Leeds City Centre where you can watch live sport, enjoy a drink and eat some decent food. Overall rating: 7/10.
Having followed Wapentake on Instragram for a while now I really wanted to call in and try their food, so we decided on visiting for breakfast last weekend. This café bar & bakery is based close to Leeds Kirkgate Market, and is a quirky little joint with a small bar area, seating downstairs and upstairs, TVs to watch live sport events, and lots of sports memorabilia. Wapentake source food locally where possible, supporting local businesses such as Kirkgate Market, Kirkgate Butchers and Tarbetts. They serve fresh food daily, and also bake sweet treats that are Vegan and Gluten-Free also. Wapentake pride themselves on providing “brunch”; full breakfasts, sandwiches, burgers and snacks with Sunday Roasts on offer too.
My review is only a snapshot of what they have to offer, but I would like to return for a Sunday Roast and a takeaway sweet treat some time!
Saturday mornings they open at 9, and we got there around half 9 with a few tables free to sit at, a few taken by people watching the rugby and enjoying breakfast or a hot drink. Their brunch menu is served until 4pm every day of the week and includes full breakfasts with Veggie and Vegan options, as well as various sandwiches. We both decided to go for the Yorkshire Breakfast. I do enjoy a Veggie breakfast usually, however as I am trying my best with Keto at the moment I am avoiding carbs, so the Veggie brekky wouldn’t have left me with much.
Everything was cooked well and tasty. I gave away half my muffin and my hash brown (heartbreakingly) to follow my keto diet, but enjoyed what I had left. I even tried the black pudding, but I am just not a fan I am afraid. The only criticism I had of the breakfast is I think they forgot to toast the muffin ☹ We just about cleared our plates and were unfortunately too full to take away a treat, but I reckon I’ll be back!
