Gangnam @GentingCasino, Sheffield

Authentic Asian/Chinese Fusion Restaurant based in the Genting Casino in Sheffield City Centre, serving delicious Asian street food, Hot Pot buffets, clay pot rice dishes and many more tasty options!

Last week the Sheffield Foodie Socials (@Sheffield_Foodie_Socials on Instagram – a group of foodies that organise a monthly event where Sheffield Foodies alike get the chance to meet up, share and try food and make more friends in the City), hosted their meet-up at Gangnam Restaurant with the help of Food Blogger Kerre (@theinsatiablefoodie).

Our evening started with a complimentary glass of fizz on arrival thanks to hosts Genting Casino (18+ ONLY http://www.begambleaware.org), who I also tried the Tropical Colada cocktail from and it was divine!. This was followed by some very tasty freebie starters including Chicken Satay Skewers, Edamame Beans, crispy pan-fried Veggie / Pork Dumplings! We then devoured some delicious Chinese and Asian fusion food including the eye-popping Hot Pots that the rest of us had food envy of, slurpingly-good noodles and much, much more.

I really enjoyed the pan-fried dumplings, they were lovely and crisp and full of flavour I thought.

For my main dish I chose the Korean Spicy Beef Noodle Soup – Slow cooked Korean beef & vegetable spicy vermicelli soup. The noodles were Mung Bean Thread Vermicelli (Glass Noodles) which I had never had before. They were very slippery haha so I made lots of mess but they were yummy and the soup itself was delicious and packed with chillies giving off a great kick! This dish came with a little pot of boiled rice that I added to the soup to soak it all up.

I also treat myself to a bit of a dessert of Custard buns as I had seen these previously and was intrigued. These were cute little steamed buns filled with a sweet, almost coconutty thick custard (not runny) and they were so sweet and satisfying, I JUST managed to save Ben one to try haha.

The hot pots that a group of others tried looked absolutely INSANE! (See picture) and they all thoroughly enjoyed these and the idea of them. So this might be something I have to return to try.

The evening was really enjoyable, getting to know more foodies of Sheffield, we even all took part in a food-related quiz and got to sample ice cream from the Sheffield founded award-winning company Yee Kwan (featured previously on Dragon’s Den).

Staff were very friendly and accommodating and everyone was really pleased with the food so I would recommend it as a restaurant to visit if you are interested in Chinese cuisine, definitely. Find out more about Gangnam here.
